the property. Exception is taken to Stubb's
suggestion that matter, should be left in hands of Consul-General at Canton; Office of Works is the proper authority to deal with it. Rent proposed is approximately equivalent to amount of land taxes and rent being paid by Office of Works to Chinese Authorities. Government of Hong Kong urgently desire to commence buildings forthwith and, subject to complete understanding as to liability in respect of buildings, recommendation is submitted for sanction by. telegraph.

My Lord,
I have laid before the Larda Commissioners of
His Majesty'a' Treasury your Report of the 17th ultimo,
(3905/1922), with its enclosures relative to the proposed
erection of a building to accommodate cadets in the
Yemen at Canton,
In reply I am to say that My Lords are in
general agreement with the views expressed in the
telegram dated the 6th ultimo from your Architest in
China, except that They agree with you that un economi o
rent should be charged for the property, Bubject to this
and to the concurrence of His Majesty's Minister at
Peking, I am to convey to you Their authority for the
proposed sub-lease of the Yaman to the devernment of
Hong Kong for the purpose desired.
